Recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced the winners of its highest award in safety. And for the third consecutive year, every Mazda vehicle tested received the highest rating.

How to Qualify for the Award

To be selected for the 2022 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, each Mazda vehicle had to go through the Institute’s six crashworthiness evaluations. These included moderate overlap front, driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. After testing, the IIHS found that each Mazda model earned good ratings in each category.

The IIHS also noted that Mazda vehicles earned advanced or superior ratings for their front crash prevention in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. The Institute also ranked Mazda’s headlights as either good or acceptable.

The Winning Models

For the 2022 selection, five Mazda models were tested. These models include:

Mazda’s Commitment to Safety

Mazda has continually raised the bar for safety standards. And after having won the Top Safety Pick+ this year, North American Operations President and CEO Jeff Guyton thanked the IIHS for recognizing their commitment.

He was quoted as saying, “Achieving the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK + Award is a reflection of Mazda’s commitment to providing advanced safety technologies that our owners expect.”… “Our wide range of safety technologies are designed to support, not replace the driver, which results in a more confident and enjoyable driving experience.”
